Questions Regarding Prop 8

Why is the Church getting involved in politics?

* The Church is politically neutral.
* The Church has always reserved the right to speak out on issues of morality.
* In 1995, the Church spoke out on the moral issue of traditional marriage through an official proclamation (The Family: A Proclamation to the World).
* See D&C 134; D&C 98:4

Hail to the prophet, ascended to heaven....

(link to news release)

I love this prophet for many reasons. What a gentle, humble, loving man. I love how he would speak with such candor and simpleness. Straightforward. He would speak truth, the word of God (bold) and temper it with love, compassion and good humor (not overbearing).

Something that has impacted me tremendously from his time as our prophet:

The Family: A Proclamation to the World

This proclamation was made while I was in high school. I carried a little copy of it with me whenever I went to a concert/"show". (mmm...every weekend) It was taped inside of my mini curious george lunchbox. ('Member those? Ugh. ) Every time I saw it, I was reminded of the blessings that come from following a living prophet. I was grateful for that inspired guidance in a world that would prefer you be tossed to and fro in the waves of life. Even more now, I know that this proclamation is the word of God. As I raise my own sweet family, it gives me peace and a greater understanding of my role as a mother.

Like the prophets of old, President Hinckley testified of Jesus Christ and taught his gospel. May he enjoy the sweet blessings of the plan of salvation and the company of his beloved wife, Marjorie.

P.S. For those of you who have NO idea what I'm talking about.... more info here. ;)
